At Akakus Oil Operations we identify, every year, the environmental aspects of our activities and determine those that have significant impacts on the environment.

Legal requirements applicable to our activities are identified and taken into account in maintaining our EMS.

Based on our environmental aspects identification, we establish environmental objectives, targets and programs in order to improve our environmental performance. The following are some of our main environmental objectives:

Minimizing the Climate Change: At Akakus Oil Operations we are concerned about the impact of climate change in our planet, so we are committed to reduce our Greenhouse Gases emissions. For this reason we are developing a project of condensate recovering that will reduce our CO2 emissions by 400,000 tons per year.

Recycling water: Water is a scarce resource in Libya and our aim is to use it efficiently, particularly in the desert. Based on this, we treat our sewage by means of two Sewage Treatment Plants and reuse this water to irrigate our gardens. In addition to these two plants we are building a new one to improve our water recycling.

Protecting the soil: Geo-textile membrane has been placed under our oil storage tanks, in order to prevent soil pollution in case of any accidental spill.

Also, for the same reason, we have placed spill trays under our chemical products drums and tanks.
